HomeSaint George Maronite Catholic Church is located in Cranston, Rhode Island. Established in May 1911, the parish was founded to serve the needs of Lebanese immigrants who sought a place to worship in their native Maronite Rite. The parish was initiated with the support of community leaders and Bishop Harkins of the Diocese of Providence, and its first priest was Father Joseph Ganem. The church originally occupied a remodeled tenement house at 85 America Street in Providence, purchased for $7,000. The name "Saint George" reflects both the influence of a renowned cathedral in Beirut and the familiarity of the name in the English-speaking community.
