HomeSt. John's Cathedral, located in Portsmouth, England, is a Catholic parish established in 1882 to meet the needs of the growing Catholic community in the area. The cathedral was built under the direction of Rev. John Horan after he purchased land in 1877 with the support of local Catholics and the Duke of Norfolk. Upon its consecration on March 29, 1887, by the first Bishop of Portsmouth, Right Rev. John Vertue, St. John's became the Mother Church of the newly formed Diocese of Portsmouth.
