HomeSt. Edward the Confessor is a Catholic parish located in Macclesfield, England, within the Diocese of Shrewsbury. Established just before World War II, the parish was formed from the southern part of St. Alban’s parish, with roots tracing back to an old Catholic Chapel at Sutton Hall, where priests served a small community even during periods of persecution. The church, dedicated on April 26, 1939, was made possible through a gift from local silk manufacturer Edward Lomas and his wife, Henrietta, who provided the land, church, and furnishings. The parish has a commitment to social and educational outreach, with significant contributions from a community of Irish Sisters of Charity since 1951.
