The church was established on May 11, 1902, and was originally known as the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, blessed by Archbishop Thomas Carr of Melbourne. The parish celebrates the Feast of Christ the King on the last Sunday of the Church's liturgical year, a recognition that was officially instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925. In 2019, an icon of the Holy Redeemer was commissioned, depicted with Christ embracing the viewer, surrounded by symbols of the four Evangelists.
